2009 Georgia Youth Awareness

Hello All fellow Members.

As we get closer to October & November for Georgia Moose Youth we need your HELP.  Ronald & Tricia Mc Donald gave our Ga Youth Awareness Program, 72 sport backpacks. THANK YOU Ronald & Tricia.

We need some goodies to put in the backpacks, we will give each students a back pack. If you have anything you like to give these students please feel free to donate them. We will be stuffing them after the weekend in Macon.

The 2009-2010 Moose Youth Awareness Program will follow the same format as last year. Your Youth Awareness coordinator should have or be planning a youth Awareness Program for your Lodge to select participants for the Association Congresses; you are asked to sponsor two (2) high school sophomore, junior or seniors students with recognized leadership skills. This year freshmen can attend the student Congresses but will not be eligible for the Awards. They will attend Our Association Student Congresses to be held at the Henry County on October 10, at 9:30 a.m. and at the Mableton Moose Family Center on October 17th at 9:30 a.m. and at the Savannah Moose Family Center October 24th at 9:30, and at Lavonia Moose Lodge on November 7th at 9:30 a.m. and at the Athens Family Center on November 14th at 9:30 a.m.

As the Georgia Moose Association Youth Awareness Coordinator We will need, from your Lodge and Chapter, the name of your Lodge Youth Awareness Coordinator. This Program is part of your Lodge Premier Award.

You should have received information from the Community Service Director at Moose International in mid August that explained the entire program. You should have also received two parent/guardian consent forms, which must be completed, prior to attending the Association Student Congress. Your local high school may provide students or students may be a son, daughter or relative of your members.

During the Association Student Congresses, the attendees will be challenged to the complete by February 28th, 2010, a minimum of three Moose Kids-Talk presentations to our targeted group of 4 to 9 years-olds. As in previous years, the Women of the Moose have offered to assist the students in their Kids-Talks presentations, by helping to arrange sessions with the targeted group. Last year nearly 22,000 four to nine years old heard positive messages from our High School age Moose Kids Talk presenters, and our goal is to reach 100,000 this year.

For your information, five of the students who are selected to attend the 2009-2010 International Students Congress, to be held April 29th to May 3th, 2010 in Indianapolis, Indiana will receive either a 1st place $12,000, 2nd place $8,000.00, 3rd place $5000.00 4th place $3000.00 5th place $2000.00 college scholarships. The Parent Consent slips must be filled out and sign the student by the parent and turn in as of this year for our records. If I could get the names by Thursday before the Congress, so I have packages for each students & name tags it would help.

The future of our country rests with the little ones today. Will your Lodge and Chapter help put your community’s youth on a path to healthy living? Will your Lodge and Chapter implement or continue the Kids-Talk program? For the sake of our youth; for the sake of our next generation of leaders, the answer must be YES.

There is a Future, They are the Future, and The Future is now! Thank you for your cooperation.

Cordially and fraternally,

Jim & Linda Phillips
